Melinda Leanna Shankar, a Guyanese-Canadian actress, is best famous for her character Alli Bhandari in Season 8 of Degrassi: The Next Generation. She also plays Indira "Indie," Mehta on YTV's 'How To be an Indie. Melinda made her starring mark in 2008's eighth season of Degrassi as Alli Bhandari an assertive young woman at the high school level, which she continues to play. Aislinn the character Clare Edwards, on Degrassi, and the Disney Channel's Jennifer Stone, co-starred with her in "Harriet the Spy", which is a Disney Channel Original Movie. Reshma was the main character in the 2011 indie-film "Festival of Lights.. Melinda is a black belt in Karate and loves hockey. She is good friends with all of her Degrassi co-stars. Melinda has confirmed that she will take time off of Degrassi to film 'How to Be Indie,' but she'll return sometime in the near future. She has confirmed that she's friendly with all of her cast mates, but is close with Scott Paterson, Samantha Munro, Luke Bilyk, Munro Chambers, Alicia Josipovic, Jessica Tyler and Aislinn Paul who is her favorite companion on the show.
