Melinda Leanna Shankar, a Guyanese-Canadian actor, is known for her roles as Alli Bhandari in Season eight of Degrassi: The Next Generation. She also appears as Indira "Indie," Mehta in YTV's "How to be Indie. Melinda has made her mark in 2008 in the 8th season of Degrassi as Alli Bhandari an assertive young woman at the high school level, which she continues to portray. She co-starred on an Disney Channel Original Movie, "Harriet The Spy," as Janie Gibbs, along with Aislinn Paul who played Clare Edwards on Degrassi and Disney Channel's Jennifer Stone. She played the lead role, Reshma, in a 2011 indie-film, entitled "Festival of Lights". Melinda is an accomplished black belt in Karate and loves hockey. Melinda has a great relationship with all her Degrassi co stars and has stated that she'll be off for a few days to shoot "How to Be Indie" but she will be back soon. She has stated that she is friendly with the cast members of all and is in close contact with Scott Paterson, Samantha Munro, Luke Bilyk, Munro Chambers, Alicia Josipovic, Jessica Tyler and Aislinn Paul who is her favorite friend on the show.
