George Foreman

In 1973-74, George Foreman was the most fearsome boxer in boxing. Undefeated in 40 straight fights, including 37 knockout, he had a 24 consecutive knockout run when he fought Muhammad Ali on October 30 1974 to defend his title of world heavyweight champion in Zaire, Africa. Foreman, a product of poverty, was always being in legal trouble. He acknowledges the Job Corp with turning his life around. He began boxing as an amateur and within less than three years, he won the gold medal at the 1968 Olympic Games. Lost only 2 out of 24 amateur matches. Under the direction of Dick Saddler, a veteran trainer, Foreman made the transition to professional. Foreman was a stablemate for Charlie Snips and Charles "Sonny" Liston, both former heavyweight champions. Foreman idolized Liston and copied his ring style and manner of fighting. To intimate his adversaries, Foreman used a piercing eye to mimic Liston. Though he was criticised for losing to second-rate opponents, he had won victories over worthy fighters like Boone Kirkman, George Chuvallo and Gregorio peralta. Destroyed undefeated Joe Frazier in just two rounds to take the world title in 1973.
