James Francis Cameron was born on August 16, 1954 in Kapuskasing, Ontario, Canada. In 1971, he emigrated to the United States. He was the son of an engineer, he majored in physics at California State University before switching to English before leaving. To support his screenwriting ambitions and to help with his writing, he drove the truck. He landed his first professional film role as an art director, miniature-set builder and process-projection supervisor on Roger Corman's Battle Beyond the Stars (1980) and gained his first experience as a director with a two week period working on Piranha II: The Spawning (1981) before being fired.He later wrote and directed The Terminator (1984), an action thriller set in the future that starred Arnold Schwarzenegger, Michael Biehn and Linda Hamilton. Although it was a small independent film with a small budget, Cameron's dynamic direction made it a huge success, and it is still a popular picture. A series of action-packed science fiction films with bigger budgets followed and included Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991), The Abyss (1989), and Aliens (1986). In the year 1990, Cameron formed his own production company, Lightstorm Entertainment. Cameron directed Titanic (1997) in 1997. It is a romantic drama about two young lovers who meet aboard the ship. The film went on surpass all records at the box office and win eleven Academy Awards
