Jane Fonda

Born in New York City to legendary screen actor Henry Fonda and Ontario-born New York socialite Frances Seymour Brokaw, Jane Seymour Fonda was set to rise early to an uncommon and influential life in the limelight. Although she initially showed little desire to follow in the footsteps of her father however, she was encouraged by Joshua Logan to appear with her father in the 1954 Omaha Community Theatre production of "The Country Girl". After having the pleasure of meeting Lee Strasberg, in 1958 her enthusiasm for acting increased. She became a member of the Actors Studio in 1960. Her debut on screen with the film Tall Story (1960) (directed by Logan) was the start of a highly successful and respected acting career that was capped by two Academy Awards for her performances in Klute (1971) and Coming Home (1978), and five Oscar nominations for Best Actress in They Shoot Horses, Don't They? (1969), Julia (1977), The China Syndrome (1979), The Morning After (1986) and On Golden Pond (1981), which was the only film she co-produced together with her father. Her professional success was in stark contrast to her personal life which was fraught with controversy and scandal. Roger Vadim, her husband at the time, made her a star in several sexy movies like Barbarella (1968).) This was followed by her most controversial and controversial time. She was an active proponent of causes that were anti-traditional. Her political activism continued with fellow activist and husband Tom Hayden in the late 1970s and early 1980s. She was the first to initiate the aerobic exercise trend in the 1980s following the release of Jane Fonda's Workout book. She and Hayden separated, and she was married to broadcasting mogul Ted Turner in 1991.
