Jewel Kilcher, born May 23rd, 1974, is an American performer, songwriter and actress. She's been nominated for four Grammy Awards and has sold more than 30 million albums all over the world as of 2021. [3]Jewel was born in Alaska near Homer. She began singing and dancing with her father who was a musician from the local area. She was 15 years old when she was awarded a partial award to attend the Interlochen Arts Academy, Michigan. The school was where she learned operatic voice. She began performing in cafes and bars in San Diego after she graduated from high school. Based on local media attention and interest, she was given a recording contract with Atlantic Records, which released her debut album, Pieces of You, in 1995. The album was later to become one of the top-selling debut albums of all time, going 12-times platinum. The debut single from the album, "Who Will Save Your Soul" was a chart-topper at eleven on the Billboard Hot 100 while two others, "You Were Meant for Me" and "Foolish Games" made it to number two on the Hot 100, and were listed on Billboard's 1997 year-end singles chart, as well in the year-end singles chart.Her subsequent album, Spirit, was released in 1998 and was followed by This Way (2001). The album was released in 2003. This album was a departure from her earlier folk-oriented albums and featured electronic arrangements as well as elements that were dance-pop. Perfectly Clear was her first country album. It was released on the top of Billboard's Top Country Albums charts in 2008. The album included three tracks: "Stronger Woman", I Do, and "Til it's like cheating". Jewel released her first independent album called Lullaby in 2009.
