Joan Blondell

 Blond hair, big blue eyes, and a large smile, Joan Blondell was usually played as the smart and witty girl who was the main character's most cherished friend.Joan was born Rose Blondell in Manhattan, New York, the daughter of Katie and Eddie Blondell, who were vaudeville actors. Her father was a Polish Jewish immigrant, and her mother was of Irish descent. Joan was on stage at the age of three years old. She toured the circuit for a number of years with her parents. Eventually, she joined a stock company at the age of 17. Her New York debut was with the Ziegfeld Follies. She also performed in a variety of Broadway productions. In 1929, she appeared on Broadway alongside James Cagney in "Penny Arcade". Warner Brothers then made the decision to film the play Sinners"Holiday" (1930). Joan as well as Cagney were both cast as leads in the film that was an immense success.
