Joseph C. Montana Jr. was born on June 11, 1956, in New Eagle, Pennsylvania. His father, Joe Montana Sr. was a manager for a finance firm, while his mother, Theresa, was a secretary in the same company. They were both from Monongahela, Pennsylvania. Joe was a fan of sports. As a child Joe would wait for his father to come home every night , so they could play catch. He was also a seasoned thrower, throwing balls with tire swings, and catching them with their baseballs. Joe was a basketball fanatic and loved to play with his friends and practice his abilities. The Montanas had an basketball court within their backyard. Joe was a fan of all sports.served as vice president of his class during his senior year. From the middle of his junior season, he was the starting quarterback on the football team. His abilities caught the attention of top universities across the nation. Parade Magazine named him an All-American quarterback in 1974.
