Kelly Hu is an American actress and voice-over artist who began her showbiz career after her participation in 1993's Miss USA pageant. Former model is an avid poker player, and a skilled martial arts instructor. She is certified as a Black Belt (Kanzen Budo Kai Karate). This is the reason she has been picked for numerous action-oriented roles. Hu was urged by her cousin, a Japanese model, to enter the glamour industry. After a brief time in modeling while on vacation, Hu started participating in beauty contests and eventually won the Miss Hawaii USA title in 1993. Hu was the first Asian-American winner of a contest, which brought her a lot positive attention and allowed her to start a career as an actor. In 1997, she was cast as Dr. Rae Chang on the television soap opera Sunset Beach.
