Kim Basinger was born December 8th, 1953 in Athens, Georgia, the third child of five. Both her parents had been in entertainment, her dad was a big-band jazz player, and her mother had been a water ballet performer in several Esther Williams movies. Kim was a quiet person, coming from her father's perspective. When she was a young girl, she was very shy. Kim's parents urged her to take ballet lessons at a young age. When she was sixteen, Kim was a confident dancer who entered the Athens Junior Miss contest. From there, she went on to win the Junior Miss Georgia title, and traveled to New York to compete in the national Junior Miss pageant. Kim, who had blossomed to a 5' 7" beauty, was offered an immediate contract at the Ford Modeling Agency. Kim at the time, who was 20 years old, was the top model, earning $1000 per day. In the 70s, she was a model of the highest caliber who graced numerous covers of magazines. Kim also appeared in numerous advertisements which included the Breck girl. Kim was a student at the Neighborhood Playhouse and performed in Greenwich Village clubs. She also sang on stage under the name Chelsea. Kim moved to Los Angeles in 1976, eager to conquer Hollywood.
