Kim Basinger was the third child of five, and was born in Athens on December 8, 1953. Both her parents had been in entertainment, her dad had played big-band jazz, and her mother had danced in water ballet in a variety of Esther Williams movies. Kim was a quiet person, coming from her father's side. Kim was shy as an elementary schoolgirl. Kim's parents encouraged her to begin ballet training at a young age. At the age of 16, Kim was a confident dancer and took part in the Athens Junior Miss contest. Kim was awarded the Junior Miss Georgia title and was invited to New York for the Junior Miss pageant. Kim who stood 5'7" tall and a beautiful beauty was offered a contract by Ford Modeling Agency. Kim was then 20 years old and was a top model earning $1,000 per day. In the 1970s, Kim was a top model who appeared on numerous advertisements and magazine covers.
