MATTHEW SETTLE

 At age 19, Matthew Settle moved to New York City and became a part of a band. He decided to become an actor when his inability to play a musical instrument forced him to rethink the direction of his career. Numerous drama classes, failed pilots, and television movies later, this slacker-by-the-numbers guy in the world of film was offered his first major role as the oldest cast member in the teen horror film I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (1998). He was almost 29 years old.Born on the 17th of September 1969 in Hickory, NC, Settle is the youngest of two girls and four brothers. In 1983 Settle's father, an ordained Baptist preacher, as well as his mother, who was a church organist, relocated their family to Sevierville, TN. Settle was a Dolly Parton fan and sold records at the nearby Dollywood amusement park. He then determined to become a musician. After being exiled from his New York-based rock group in the early 1990s, he sold seafood and meat off of trucks on Long Island before Jay Julian Robert De Niro's attorney, got him into acting school. Settle was able to borrow money from friends to pay for classes and then relocated to Los Angeles to start his career. He was later cast as a frat boy in the movie that aired on the show What happened to Bobby Earl? (1997) together with Kate Jackson and Kristian Alfonso, land a small role in the TV film Murder in Mind (1997) with Ellen Burstyn and Kristin Davis as well as play Green Lantern in the pilot for Justice League of America (1997) with David Ogden Stiers and Miguel Ferrer.
