Natalie Portman is the first person born in the 1980s to have won the Academy Award for Best Actress (for Black Swan (2010)).Natalie was born Natalie Hershlag on June 9, 1981, in Jerusalem, Israel. Her parents are Avner Hershlag (an Israeli-born physician) as well as Shelley Stevens (an American-born artist, from Cincinnati, Ohio), who are Natalie's agents. Both her parents are Ashkenazi Jewish. Natalie's family fled Israel and moved to Washington, D.C. when she was just a few years old. Her family moved several times before they finally settled in New York. She still lives in New York to this day. The academic achievements of her allowed her to attend Harvard University. She graduated with distinction. At the age of 11, she was discovered by a pizza store agent. At 11 years old, she was encouraged to take on a career as a model, but she decided she wanted to become an actor. She appeared in numerous live performances and made her movie debut in the movie Leon: The Professional (1994) (aka "Leon"). In the following years, Natalie won roles in such films as Heat (1995), Beautiful Girls (1996), as well as Mars Attacks! (1996).
