Sir Paul McCartney is an important figure in contemporary culture. His father James "Jim" McCartney, was a cotton salesman as well as a pianist in the Jim Mac's Jazz Band in Liverpool. McCartney is of Irish and English descent. Young McCartney was raised in a non-denominational family. He was a performer and an artist, and he was a very happy child with Michael who was his younger brother.
