Sir Paul McCartney is a key persona in the world of contemporary music as a composer, singer, poet and writer. He is also an artist, writer, humanitarian, entrepreneur, and the holder of over 3 thousand copyrights. He is included in the "Guinness Book of World Records", for most records, the highest number of #1s (shared), best-seller songs, the most-covered song "Yesterday" and the largest concert audience that has been paid for (350,000plus in Brazil in 1989). He is considered to be one of the greatest entertainers of all times. His father, James "Jim" McCartney, was a cotton salesman and a pianist leading Jim Mac's Jazz Band in Liverpool. He is of Irish and English descent. The young McCartney was raised non-denominational. He took classes in art and music and enjoyed a blissful childhood with his younger brother named Michael. When he was 11 he was one of four students who had passed the 11+ exam, called "the scholarship" in Liverpool, and gained an admission to Liverpool Institute for Boys. He attended the institute from 1953 to 1960, and graduated with an A-level in English and Art.
