 The Steelers drafted him by the Pittsburgh Steelers as the heir apparent to Tommy Maddox, Ben Rothelisberger wound up taking the NFL with him during the 2004 season. Rothelisberger was elevated to the position of his position as the quarterback in the first game after Maddox suffered an injury in Pittsburgh's second week defeat to the Baltimore Ravens. The Steelers' season was forever altered. He was dubbed Big Ben due to an impressive build, which was untypical for quarterbacks, the player won in his first official start in the third week of 2004 and won again in week four. The Steelers kept winning in subsequent games, and suddenly the Steelers after a year from a poor 2003 season, had become an AFC force.It was over the Halloween weekend in 2004 that Rothelisberger officially "arrived" when Pittsburgh played the defense of the Superbowl champion New England Patriots, who had compiled an NFL-record 21 consecutive victories. This streak was cut to half when Rothelisberger led Pittsburgh to a 34-20 win which gave Pittsburgh the AFC lead. On the following Sunday, Rothelisberger dealt the visiting Philidelphia Eagles a 27-3 pounding, the Eagles losing their first game of the year and which led to the infamous Terrell Owens-Donovan Mcabb sideline incident.
