John McEnroe

John Patrick McEnroe Jr. (born February 16, 1959) is an American former professional tennis player. His shot-making and volleying abilities and rivalries with Bjorn Borg, Jimmy Conners, as well as his exuberant tennis behavior were among his most notable attributes. He is the only male tennis player who has held the title of world No. #1 ranking in singles and doubles at the same time. There was only one other male player, Stefan Edberg, ever reached No. 1. in both, though at different times. McEnroe's career ended with singles titles of 77 and 78 doubles titles on ATP Tour; this is the highest total men's Open Era combined. McEnroe is the only male tennis player to have won more than 70 titles in both the men's singles and the men's doubles categories. He was awarded 25 singles titles on the ATP Champions tour. He won seven Grand Slam singles titles (four at the US Open and three at Wimbledon), nine Grand Slam men's doubles titles (five at Wimbledon and four at the US Open), and one Grand Slam mixed doubles title (at the French Open). His singles record of 82-3 in 1984 remains the best single-season win rate in the Open Era.
