Tyrone Curtis "Muggsy" Bogues (born on the 9th of January 1965) is a former American basketball player. The shortest player ever to play in the National Basketball Association (NBA) 5 feet 3 inches in (1.60 m) Bogues played point guard for four teams throughout his 14-season career within the NBA. He is best known for his ten seasons playing for the Charlotte Hornets. However, he also played with the Washington Bullets and Golden State Warriors. For six seasons (1989-1995), Bogues was ranked in the top seven for assists, and among the top 10 for steals. He scored the record of 146 NBA double-doubles.After his NBA career, he worked as head coach of the now-defunct Charlotte Sting of the WNBA.Bogues was born in Baltimore, Maryland, and lived in the Lafayette Court housing projects.His mother was 4 ft 11 in (1.50 m) and his father 5 ft 5 in (1.65 m). He had three older siblings.Bogues's childhood was not easy. He was five years old when he was hit by stray buckshot, and later hospitalized. His father was sentenced to prison for armed theft. Bogues also became a star athlete in the sport of baseball and wrestling. As a child playing basketball on the playgrounds Bogues was known as "Muggsy" in honor of a small character from The Bowery Boys.
