Alia Martine Shawkat (/'aeli@ 'So:kaet/ AL-ee-@ SHAW-kat Arabic: ly Mrtyn SHWKT; born April 18, 1989[3]) is an American actress. Her credits include The Old Man, State of Grace and Maeby Funke in the Fox/Netflix sitcom Arrested development (2003-2006 2013-2018), Dory Sief on the TBS and HBO Max comedy series Search Party (2016) and Gertie Michaels in The Final Girls (2015). She also appeared as Frances Cleveland, Virginia Hall and Alexander Hamilton on Comedy Central's Drunk History. She was born to Tony Shawkat, a film producer, as well as Dina Shawkat (nee Burke) in Riverside, California. Her birthplace was born in Palm Springs. Her maternal grandfather was actor Paul Burke.From 2001 until 2004 Shawkat played Hannah in the show State of Grace. Palmer remarked that she was "one of the brightest lights on a show populated solely with bright lights," as well as Scott Weinberg of eFilmCritic described her as "one funny young woman." In an interview on The A.V. Shawka declared that she was influenced by Mitch Hurwitz, the show's creator, in an interview with the A.V. Club.
