Yvonne Joyce Craig (May 16 1937 - August 17th 15th, 2015) was an American ballerina and actress who gained notoriety for her role as Batgirl in the 1960s' telefilm series Batman. Other notable roles include Dorothy's 1963 film It Happened At the World's Fair, Azalea Tatum's film Kissin' Cousins from 1964, and Orion Marta, the green-skinned Orion Marta, in Star Trek's episode "Whom Gods Destroy". Yvonne Craig was born in Columbus, Ohio. Her family in 1951 moved to the Oak Cliff neighborhood in Dallas, Texas, where she attended W. H. Adamson High School and then Sunset High School, from where she failed to be able to graduate due to the absence of "a single PE credit." After being discovered by Alexandra Danilova, a ballerina as well as an instructor, Craig joined the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo as its newest corps de ballet participant. She was able to do stunts while playing Batgirl due to her training. She left the ballet company in 1957 "over an argument over casting changes" and relocated to Los Angeles in the hopes of pursuing her dance career however, she was acting in films.
