Melinda Leanna Shankar is a Guyanese-Canadian actor famous for her portrayal of Alli Bhandari from the beginning of Season 8 on Degrassi: The Next Generation and Indira "Indie" Mehta on YTV series"How to be an Indie.' Melinda was a mainstay in 2008's 8th season of Degrassi as Alli Bhandari, a young confident girl in high school. She continues to perform the character. Aislinn, who plays Clare Edwards, on Degrassi as well as the Disney Channel's Jennifer Stone, co-starred with her in "Harriet the Spy" which is a Disney Channel Original Movie. She was the lead character, Reshma, in a 2011 indie-film, entitled "Festival of Lights". Melinda has a black belt in karate and she likes hockey. She has a great relationship with all of her Degrassi co-stars. Melinda has confirmed that she'll take time off of Degrassi to film 'How to be Indie'. However, she'll return some time soon. She has stated that she is very close to all of her cast mates but is especially close to Scott Paterson and Samantha Munro, Luke Bilyk and Munro Chambers.
