Melinda Leanna Shankar, a Canadian-Canadian Guyanese actress, is most well famous for her character Alli Bhandari in the Season 8 of Degrassi: The Next Generation. She also appears as Indira "Indie," Mehta in YTV's "How to be an Indie. Melinda has made her mark in 2008 during the 8th season of Degrassi as Alli Bhandari, a confident young women in high school, a role she continues to portray. She was a co-star in the Disney Channel Original Movie, 'Harriet the Spy' as Janie Gibbs along with Aislinn Paul who plays Clare Edwards on Degrassi and Disney Channel's Jennifer Stone. Reshma played the lead role in the 2011 indie-film "Festival of Lights. Melinda is black belt in Karate and enjoys playing hockey. She is good friends with all of her Degrassi co-stars. She has also confirmed that she will leave Degrassi to shoot 'How to Be Indie,' but she'll be back in the near future. She has confirmed that she is friendly with everyone on her cast however, she is particularly close to Scott Paterson, Samantha Munro, Luke Bilyk, Munro Chambers, Alicia Josipovic, Jessica Tyler and Aislinn Paul she considers her most trusted companion on the show.
