Bob Dylan

Robert Allen Zimmerman was born 24 May 1941 in Duluth, Minnesota; his father Abe was employed at the Standard Oil Co. Six years later, the family relocated to Hibbing which is often the coldest area in the US in which he taught himself piano and guitar and started several high school rock bands. In 1959 he entered the University of Minnesota and began performing as Bob Dylan at clubs in Minneapolis and St. Paul. The following year he went to New York, performed in Greenwich Village folk clubs, and spent a lot of time in the hospital of his hero Woody Guthrie. In the year 1961, Columbia signed the singer to a contract, and the following year released his debut album, containing two songs that were his own. The following year "The Freewheelin Bob Dylan" came out, which included all original tracks, including the 1960s anthem "Blowin' in the Wind." Following a number of other important albums featuring acoustic and folk, and performances together with Joan Baez, he launched into an entirely new format of electric and acoustic with the release of 1965's "Bringing It All Back Home" which, with The Byrds' cover of the song "Mr Tambourine Man,"" was the first album to introduce folk-rock. The documentary Bob Dylan: Dont Look back (1967) was made during this time. He ended his relationship with Baez and at the close of the year had married Sara Dylan (born Sara Lowndes). Afraid of being killed in a motorcycle accident on July 29, 1966, he resigned to a time of introspection. His second album was mostly country after more hard rock performances. The band's career was declining and critics were decrying the album. Sam Peckinpah requested him to compose the music for Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid (1973) that is more memorable as a soundtrack that a movie. The duo of The Band released their first top-selling album "Planet Waves" in 1974.
