Chance the Rapper is one of the most recognizable breakout stars of the past few years, having achieved fame and success in a unique method: by avoiding major labels that would like to sign the rapper. Fiercely independent and articulate the rapper has found a way to please both backpacker fan base and a larger audience with his clever collaborations with the likes of Lil Wayne and Kanye West. He's also a political activist, and in a recent act of giving back to the community, which saw him donate $1 million to Chicago public schools, saw his fellow Chicagoan Michelle Obama tweeting her praise for him: "Thanks for giving back to the Chicago community, which gave us many opportunities. Chance the Rapper was born Chancelor Johnathan Bennett in Chicago's southside on the 16th of April 1993. Ken Williams Bennett was his father. was a city mayor in Chicago and later served as Barack Obama as a senator. Young Chance began rapping under the name Chano and formed the group Instrumentality with a J-Emcee as a friend. Chance's older brother, Taylor Bennett, also started a rapper career.A connection with Childish Gambino for the track "They Don't Like Me" on his Royalty mixtape in 2012 opened a new avenue. Gambino, aka actor Donald Glover, invited Chance to perform during his next tour. Chance was already recording his next mixtape Acid Rap, the album that will really propel his music into the next level.
