Francine Joy Drescher is an American comedian, actor, writer and activist. Her character as Fran on the TV series 'TheNanny,' from 1993-1999 is her most famous performance. She is also famous for her distinct New York accent and nasal voice. When she made her screen debut in the 1977 film 'Saturday Night Fever and 'Saturday Night Fever', she was a part in 'American Hot Wax and Wes Craven's horror film "Stranger in our House" in the year 1980. In addition to guest appearances on several TV series, she also was recognized for films such as Gorp', The Hollywood Knights,’?Doctor Detroit,’?This is Spinal Tap' and ‘UHF. In 1978, she starred in American Hot Wax along with Wes's thriller 'Stranger In Our House'. During the show's run, she was nominated in the coveted 'Best Actress of a Comedy Television Series' category. She has survived Uterine cancer as well as an activist in support of LGBT rights. Her role as an ambassador for public diplomacy and women's rights at the US State Department is what is what makes her famous. She divorced producer Peter Marc Jacobson.
