Frank and Sophie Yerich, Francine York's parents were born in Aurora, Minnesota. Francine York was five years old when her family, including her younger sister Deanne moved to Cleveland. In Cleveland, she began writing short stories and began acting. At the age of nine, Francine was a stage performer in the Hodge Grammar School production of Cinderella as Griselda. Francine as the role of the evil stepmother, was initially disappointed at not being selected for the role of the main character. Francine was initially upset that she didn't get the role of the main character she walked up to the audience to inform her mother she wanted to be an actress. At the age of 12, Francine was 12years old, she moved back to Aurora where she continued performing in class plays as well as writing, producing, acting in a three-act show called Keen Teens or Campus Quarantine. Francine showed a strong entrepreneurial spirit in her young age, charged five cents admission to the show and the entire town was present for the show.
