James Francis Cameron CC, born on August 16, 1954, is a Canadian filmmaker. He is known for making science fiction and epic films. He gained recognition for writing and the direction of The Terminator (1984). Cameron found further success through Aliens (1986), The Abyss (1989), Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991), and the action comedy True Lies (1994). He also wrote and directed Titanic (1997) and Avatar (2009) which was a huge success, with Titanic earning him Academy Awards in Best Picture as well as Best Director, and Best Film Editing. Avatar film, which was shot using 3D technology earned nominations in similar categories. Additionally, he is an official National Geographic sea explorer. He has made numerous documentaries on the subject, such as Ghosts of the Abyss (2003 and 2005) and Aliens of the Deep (2005). Cameron has also been a part of underwater filming and remote vehicle technology and has helped create the digital 3D Fusion Camera System. Cameron was the first person to solo descend to the Mariana Trench in 2012 using the Deepsea Challenger submarine.
