James Francis Cameron CC (born August 16, 1954) is a Canadian filmmaker and environmentalist. His films include science fiction and epics. He was first recognized for his work on The Terminator (1984). Cameron achieved further successes through Aliens (1986), The Abyss (1989), Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991) and the action-comedy True Lies (1994). He also wrote and directed Titanic (1997) and Avatar (2009), with Titanic earning him Academy Awards in Best Picture as well as Best Director and Best Editing. Avatar that was shot in 3D technology earned nominations in similar categories. Alongside filmmaking, he's also an National Geographic sea explorer and has made numerous documentaries on the subject, including Ghosts of the Abyss (2003) and Aliens of the Deep (2005). Cameron also helped to create the computer-generated 3D Fusion Camera System and underwater filming.
