At just 16 years old Melanie Lynskey captured the attention of film-goers with her stunning debut in Peter Jackson's revered psychological crime film, Heavenly Creatures (1994). TIME's Richard Corliss praised her bold portrayal of Pauline Parker, a teenager who lost her closest friend Kate Winslet and spiraled out of control. The award also gave her the Best Actress trophy for New Zealand. After a gap of three years attending university and moving to Los Angeles, Lynskey made her return to the silver screen when she was played by Drew Barrymore's charming step-sister in Andy Tennant's female-centric fairy tale remake, Ever After: A Cinderella Story (1998). Parts of Detroit Rock City (1999)"But I'm a cheerleader" (1999), Coyote Ugly (2000), Snakeskin (2001), Abandon (2002), Sweet Home Alabama (2002), Shattered Glass (2003), and Clint Eastwood's Oscar nominated war epic Flags of Our Fathers (2006) followed.
