Jared Fogle

Jared S. Fogle (born December 1st, 1977), popularly referred to as The Subway Guy, is a spokesperson for Subway Restaurants in its advertising campaigns. His significant weight loss is now known as the "Subway Diet" and he credits it to Subway sandwiches. He was first brought to the attention by Ryan Coleman, a former college roommate of Fogle. Coleman wrote an article on Fogle's weight loss Indiana Daily Student in April 1999. Men's Health magazine confirmed the article and featured Fogle's "Subway sandwich diet" in an articleentitled "Stupid Diets. . . That's what makes it work! Fogle was found to have become overweight by eating junk food and not exercising. He switched to Subway and changed his diet to include healthier options as well as smaller portions, and without fattening condiments like mayonnaise. This led to substantial weight reduction. An area in Chicago Subway franchisee reported the idea to Subway's Chicago advertising agency. The agency verified the claim by visiting the Subway franchise close to the Indiana University campus, where they identified him based on his description.
