Jessica Marie Alba was born in Pomona (CA) on the 28th of April 1981 to Catherine (Jensen), and Mark David Alba. Mark Alba was a member of the US Air Force. Her father is of Mexican descent (including Spanish and Indigenous Mexican roots) as is her mother, who is of Danish, Welsh, English, and French roots. When she was a child her family moved to Biloxi (MS) with her mother. A few years later, her father's work brought them back to California before moving to Del Rio, TX, until finally they settled in Southern California when Jessica was nine. At the age of five, she was when she began to fall in love with acting and was twelve before she started her first acting class. Nine months later, she was hired by an agent. Jessica was a student at the Atlantic Theatre Company, where she was mentored by William H. Macy (founder) and David Mamet (founder). Since her first steps in acting, Jessica has played many roles, from light comedy or dramatic gritty. She made her feature film debut in 1993 with Hollywood Pictures' comedy Camp Nowhere (1994). She was initially hired for only two weeks. Her breakthrough came when the actress playing the main role of the film suddenly quit. Jessica smiles and admits that it wasn't her talent or charm that led the director to choose her for the role. The reason was her hair.
