John

John the Apostle[7] (Ancient Greek Ioannes; Latin, Ioannes[8] c.6 AD - C.100 AD Ge'ez: Yohhanese';) Saint John the Beloved was one the Twelve Apostles of Jesus according the New Testament. John is usually referred to as the eldest apostle. He was the son Zebedee and Salome. The brother of his was James was one of the Twelve Apostles. The Church Fathers identify the apostle as John the Evangelist, John of Patmos, John the Elder, and the Beloved Disciple, and claim that he outlived the apostles who remained and was the only one to die of natural causes. However, modern scholars are divided on the veracity of these claims.John the Apostle is generally held to be the author of the Gospel of John, and many Christian denominations believe that he authored several other works of the New Testament (the three Johannine epistles, as well as the Book of Revelation, together with the Gospel of John are known as the Johannine works), depending on the degree to which he's distinguished from, or related to, John the Evangelist, John the Elder, and John of Patmos.
