Steger started his career appearing in several commercials and was a guest on VR Troopers in 1994. After starring in the role of Mohamed Esfiri on NCIS in 2005, he landed an ongoing role in The Winner in 2007. He was also cast as the lead role by Tim Burton in The Killers music video "Bones" in 2006. As of 2007 Steger has been featured in a variety of Disney Channel productions. He has guest starred on the Hannah Montana episode titled "Everybody was Best-Friend-Fighting" and the Cory in the House episode named "Macho Libre" and also had a co-starring role in the Disney Channel Original Movie The Cheetah Girls: One World which premiered on August 22nd, 2008. From 2008 to 2013 Steger was on the show as Navid Shirazi, the character which he played on Criminal Minds. Steger also produced and directed a one-woman TV show called Brandee Built on Crazee, starring Brandee Tucker. Steger and Brandee announced via Twitter on April 21, 2016 that they had welcomed the birth of a daughter, poet Louise Steger. Brandee and Michael were welcomed by Mozart Lee Steger on 10 January in 2020.
