Mike Murphy

 Michael James Murphy (born 20 October 1941) is an Irish broadcaster, actor and property developer. Murphy is best known for his broadcasting work as a member of RTE. He was the host of numerous TV shows, including The Live Mike, Winning Streak as well as The Big Interview. Murphy was born in Dublin, on 20 October 1941. He was the eldest of five children to Ned Murphy and Kitty Murphy. He was educated at St. Louis National School, Terenure College, Synge Street CBS and Colaiste Mhuire.Murphy worked as a draper in a Dublin drapery shop before finding a job with the Castrol Oil Company. Later, he was active in the acting of the Dublin Shakespeare Society. He also created scripts for Radio Eireann sponsored programs. In the following years, he was a part of the Brendan Smith Academy of Acting. His acting career took him all over Europe. He was also a part of The Girl with Green Eyes which is the film adaptation of Tom McGrath's novel which introduced Mike Murphy to RTE. Murphy started his broadcasting career in 1965 as an announcer for RTE Radio. By the year 1968, he had established his reputation as an announcer as well as a radio presenter. He then began presenting on television, beginning with one series of a pop show known as The Go-Two Show, and serving as an announcer for the game show, Jackpot. He was hired by RTE's newsroom in the year 1969 as a sports announcer.
