Morena Baccarin was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to the actress Vera Setta and journalist Fernando Baccarin. Her father was actor Ivan Setta. She is both of Italian and Lebanese heritage and Portuguese/Brazilian. At the age of ten she relocated to New York with her father. At the age of ten, she relocated to New York with her father. After completing Roger Dodger (2002) she moved to Los Angeles where she came to the notice of Joss Whedon who decided to cast her in his short-lived cult sci-fi series Firefly (2002). Since then, she's rarely been seen off the screen.
