The American actor is a popular choice for his authoritative voice and calm manner of speaking. Morgan was born on the 1st of June 1937, in Memphis, Tennessee, to Mayme Edna (Revere) as an educator and Morgan Porterfield Freeman, a barber. After going to Los Angeles City College, the young Freeman was employed for several years as a mechanic with the US Air Force between 1955 and 1959. His first encounter with dramatic arts was through the stage, including an all-African American productioncalled Hello, Dolly!. He also won Drama Desk and Clarence Derwent Awards and the Tony Award nomination in 1978 for his performance in The Mighty Gents. In the year 1980, he received two Obie Awards, for his performance as the Shakespearean anti-hero Coriolanus at the New York Shakespeare Festival and for his work as a character in Mother Courage and Her Children.
