Born in London, England in 1979, Rosamund Mary Elizabeth Pike was the sole child of Caroline (Friend, an accomplished classical violinist) and Julian Pike, an opera singer father. Due to their job, she spent much of her childhood travelling around Europe. Pike was a student at the Badminton School in Bristol, England and started acting at the National Youth Theatre. In a National Youth Theatre production of "Romeo and Juliet", she was first spotted and accepted by an agent, although she continued to study at Wadham College, Oxford, where she took classes in English Literature, eventually graduating with an upper second-class distinction degree.Pike appeared in a number of UK TV shows, including Wives and Daughters (1999) and then made her film debut in the feature genre as the glacial beauty "Miranda Frost" in the James Bond film, Die Another Day (2002); at the time the film premiered in 2002, she was only 23 years old. Though her debut was a big-budget action film but the film subsequent work was mostly in smaller independent films like Promised Land (2004), The Libertine (2004), (for which she received the Best Supporting Actress award at The British Independent Film Awards) as well as Pride & Prejudice (2005) in the role of one of the Bennet daughters. After a brief time in Hollywood with Doom (2005) and Fracture (2006) Then she returned to films with smaller budgets with outstanding performances in An Education (2009) as well as Made in Dagenham (2010). She also played the lead role in the film Barney's Version, which was a duet with Paul Giamatti in Barney's Version (2010).
