 Marilyn Monroe (1926-1962). Marilyn Monroe was a model as well as a singer, actress, and one of the most famous women in the 20th century. Monroe has become a recognizable persona of fame and beauty. Her mother, Norma Jeane Mortenson (born June 1926) is widely considered as one the most influential people of American cultur. Gladys Pearl Baker (nee Monroe) was her mother. Her father was not identified and she was baptized as Norma Jeane Baker. Her mother Gladys was in a tumultuous mental state, and was struggling to raise her children. In the beginning, for six years of her life, Marilyn was brought up by foster parents, Albert and Ida Bolender in the town of Hawthorne, California. Marilyn's mother was trying to get her away after she suffered a mental breakdown.
