 Scarlett Ingrid Johansson was born on the 22nd of November 1984 in Manhattan, New York City, New York. Her mother Melanie Sloan is from a Jewish family in the Bronx and her father, Karsten Johansson is a Danish-born architect from Copenhagen. She is a sibling to Vanessa Johansson who is an actress. Her brother, Adrian Johansson was born just three minutes later. Hunter Johansson is a twin brother, and her paternal half brother Christian Johansson is a Danish architect who hails from Copenhagen. Her grandfather was writer Ejner Johansson.Johansson began acting during the early years of her life, when her mother started attending auditions. At the age of eight she made her acting debut in "Sophistry" which was an off-Broadway musical featuring Ethan Hawke at New York's Playwrights Horizons. Although she would often audition for commercials, her mother started limiting her film tryouts because she was reluctant to take rejections. She made her film debut when she was nine as John Ritter's character's daughter in the fantasy comedy North (1994)
