Shirley MacLaine was born Shirley MacLean Beaty in Richmond, Virginia. Kathlyn Corinne MacLean was her mother. She was a drama instructor in Nova Scotia, Canada. Her father, Ira Owens Beaty was an eminent psychologist and real estate agent from Virginia. Her brother, Warren Beatty, was born on the 30th of March 1937. She is of Scottish and English descent. She was the tallest student of ballet classes at the Washington School of Ballet. She relocated to New York shortly after graduating from Washington-Lee High School. The producer was constantly not correctly naming her when she was auditioning for Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II's "Me and Juliet". Shirley MacLean Beaty became Shirley MacLaine, and she changed her name to Shirley MacLaine. Later, she appeared in "The Pajama Game" as a part of the chorus, and as an understudy to Carol Haney. A few months into the show's run Shirley was going to leave the show to take on the leading role in "Can-Can" but ended up filling in for Haney who had injured her ankle and was unable perform. A few months later, she was able to once more be in the role of Carol following another injury. The very same evening Hal B. Wallis, the film producer was present.
