Yasmin Vossoughian '00 does not think of herself as to be a writer. She says, "I like to interact and learn from people." In an economics class at Oxy the class, she was required to create a story about the differences between what people do in society. The student took a camera and documented the day-to-day lives of a CEO and a sewage worker. They talked about their jobs and filmed in high-rises. "Someone said, 'You're gonna be the next Barbara Walters,'" she says with a laugh.Today Vossoughian has been reporting stories as anchor for MSNBC, cable's second-most-popular news channel and the sole cable channel in the top 25 that has grown by double-digits in the year the year 2018. "I enjoy breaking news," she says. "I'm just this junkie in the realm of that."After being hired by MSNBC in the year 2017 Vossoughian was a regular on the station as the co-anchor for "Morning Joe"First Look," the predawn newscast that leads into MSNBC's iconic morning show. She anchors the two-hour news block on Sunday and Saturday afternoons, where she along with guest panelists, discuss the week's biggest headlines
