Anand Dighe

 Anand Dighe, (27 January 1951- 26 August 2001) popularly known as Dharmaveer, was a prominent politician & Thane District Unit Chief of Shiv Sena.He mentored many young politicians from Thane region like Eknath Shinde and Rajan Vichare.Dighe became a politician at a an early age. He became President of Shivsena's Thane Unit in 1984. Dighe was a grass-roots leader with a large fan base. He was known as Dharmaveer. He was believed to be a strong muscular man in Thane. He would host an every day Durbar at his Tembhi Naka residence to hear out/resolve issues faced by Thane citizens along with Shiv Sena party workers.Dighe was accused of the murder of Shiv Sena party member Sridhar Khopkar who had, according to reports, supported Congress in 1989. Dighe was taken into custody under TADA. He was released on bail, and admitted to the hospital in the month of August 2001 after a car accident. He sustained minor injuries on his leg. During his treatment, hospital management informed the public that Dighe was dead from a heart attack. He believed that he had passed away due to medical negligence and his followers set fire to the Sunitadevi Singhania Hospital where he was burial. His popularity led to few followers believing that he had been murdered. There are several conspiracy theories about the death of Anand Dighe.
