Charlotte Emma Aitchison (born 2 August 1992), known professionally as Charli XCX, is a English musician and singer. Born in Cambridge and raised in Start Hill, Essex, she started posting songs on Myspace in the year 2008 and was subsequently discovery by a promoter who invited her to perform at warehouse events. She signed a recording contract with Asylum Records in 2010. In 2011, she dropped an assortment of mixtapes and singles. Charli XCX became a worldwide success after the release of "I Love It" as the first Icona Pop collaboration. True Romance, her debut studio album, was released in 2013. It received critical acclaim but didn't meet commercial expectations. In 2014, she provided the hook and bridge for "Fancy" by the rapper Iggy Azalea, which finished the year as one of the top-selling singles in the world and was nominated for two Grammy Awards. The same year, Charli XCX released "Boom Clap" that became her first solo top ten single on the Billboard Hot 100. The punk-influenced Sucker album was her second album of her own. It was released at the beginning of the year. It was the birthplace of singles "Break all the Rules" (and "Doing It")
