Kristen Welker (born July 1 1976) is an American television journalist working with NBC News. She is a White House correspondent based in Washington, D.C.,and co-anchor of Weekend Today, the show that airs on Saturdays of Today, alongside Peter Alexander.Welker is the daughter of Harvey and Julie Welker. Her father is an engineer, her mother is a real estate agent. The father of Welker is white, and her mother is black. In 1994, welker completed her studies at Germantown Friends School in Philadelphia and Harvard College in 1998 with the degree of Bachelor of Arts. At Harvard, she majored in the field of history and received her degree with honors.Welker also interned for Today in 1997, while at Harvard.Welker has worked for ABC affiliates WLNE-TV in Providence, Rhode Island, and KRCR-TV in Redding/Chico, California as well as joining NBC in 2005, working at affiliate WCAU in Philadelphia in which she worked as a reporter and weekend anchor. In 2010 she was hired by NBC News as a correspondent stationed in Burbank, California at the NBC News West Coast headquarters. She became an NBC White House correspondent in December of 2011.
