Kristen Welker (born July 1, 1976) is a American television journalist working for NBC News. She's a White House correspondent, based in Washington, D.C., and co-anchor of Weekend Today, which airs Saturdayson Peter Alexander. Welker is the daughter Harvey and Julie Welker. Her father is an engineer and her mother works as a real estate agent. Welker's mother is black and her father is white. She graduated from Germantown Friends School in Philadelphia in 1994, and Harvard College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1998. She graduated from Harvard College in 1994 with the degree of Bachelor of Arts in History. In 2010, she joined NBC News as a correspondent based in Burbank, California at the NBC News West Coast headquarters. She was promoted to NBC White House correspondent in December 2011.
