Sarah Anne Akers (nee Jones born 27 August 1978) is professionally known as Suranne Jones, is an English actor and producer. Between 2000 and 2004 she was the star of Coronation Street's Karen McDonald. After the show ended in 2004, she continued her TV career with dramas such as Vincent (2005-2006), Strictly Confidential (2006) as well as Harley Street (2008). The series was highly praised for her portrayal as Ruth Slater, a convicted murderer in the mini-series Unforgiven (2009). In the year 2016, Jones played in Scott & Bailey as Detective RacheBailey. It was Jones' second collaboration with screenwriter Sally Wainwright. The roles she played in Single Father (both the 2010 version as well as Five Days) and The Crimson Field (2014) garnered the attention of others. In addition, she performed stages in productions like A Few Good Men (2006), Blithe Spirit (2008), Top Girls (2011) and Orlando (2013). Jones received numerous prizes for her performance as Gemma Foster (2015-2017), including the Broadcasting Press Guild award as well as the BAFTA TV Award as Best Actress. After the end of Doctor Foster, Jones returned to the stage, playing in the production of Frozen in which she was awarded positive notices. Jones has been seen in Save Me (2018) and Vigil (2021) in addition to also in Gentleman Jack (2019-present), her fourth collaboration with Wainwright.
