As an Emmy nominated political and voting rights activist, Maria Teresa Kumar has dedicated her career to advocating for an inclusive and democratic participation. Rosario Dawson, actress Rosario Kumar, and she co-founded Voto Latino, a non-profit national organization which uses technology and the media to attract young Latinx voters. Voto Latino, under her direction has registered more than one quarter of a million voters. They are also a founding partner in National Voter Registration Day. Maria Teresa Kumar was born in Bogota in 1974. Kumar was able to move to the United States when she was very young, and grew up in Sonoma County, California. However, she spent the majority of her summers back in Columbia. Kumar was able to recognize her passion for political activism early on.
