As an Emmy nominated politician and activist for voting rights, Maria Teresa Kumar has been a tireless advocate for an inclusive and democratic participation. She co-founded a national non-profit organization with actress Rosario Dawson called Voto Latino which uses media and technology to encourage younger generations of Latinx voters. Voto Latino, under her leadership, has registered more than a quarter of a million voters. They are also an original partner of National Voter Registration Day. Maria Teresa Kumar was born in Bogota in 1974. Kumar was able to move to the United States when she was very young, and spent her childhood in Sonoma County, California. However, she spent the majority of her summers in Columbia. Kumar was able recognize her passion for political activism at an early age.
