Maria Teresa Kumar, an Emmy-nominated political activist in the field of elections and political issues and has dedicated her entire life to encouraging inclusive political participation. She founded a national non-profit group along with actress Rosario Dawson called Voto Latino which uses technology and media to help younger generations of Latinx voters. Under her leadership, Voto Latino has registered over a quarter million voters and was the founding partner in National Voter Registration Day, the largest single day effort to voter registration.Maria Teresa Kumar was born in 1974 in Bogota, Colombia. Kumar at just five years old, emigrated to the United States from Colombia. She grew up in Sonoma County. However, she spent most of her summers back in Columbia. At an early age, Kumar recognized her love for politics.
