Millicent (Millie) Simmonds, an American actress, has been nominated for a BAFTA nomination. She is best known for Wonderstruck (2017) and A Quiet Place Part II (2018). Millicent was born in Bountiful, Utah and at the age of five began acting and telling stories using American Sign Language. Millicent was a member of the theater and drama club in her elementary school. She played Puck in Midsummer Night's Dream. She had no idea she would become an actress as she had never seen Deaf characters like her on films or on TV. Her drama teacher was sent an email in the year 2016 with the casting call for an Deaf actress to portray Rose in Wonderstruck the film adaptation of Brian Selznick's novel. Millie was instantly considered by her teacher, and she advised her to apply. Millie gave a single-take audition that was a huge success and brought Todd Haynes to tears. This was her most memorable performance. Wonderstruck and Millicent made their debuts at Cannes as well as the New York Film Festival. AP listed her as one of the Breakthrough Entertainers in 2017 and Time Magazine listed Rose among the Top 10 Movie Performances in 2017. Millicent was cast as Regan Abbott, John Krasinski’s horror thriller A Quiet Place. She played alongside Emily Blunt (Emily Blunt) and Noah Jupe. Krasinski made it a point to cast Regan as an Deaf actress and authentically using American Sign Language. Her own experiences in life were a source of ideas and inspiration for the film's story and sound design. A Quiet Place premiered at the South By Southwest Film Festival and was a huge success.
